ABOUT ABOUT

Modeled after Nashville's Blue Bird Café, Writers in the Round is an intimate listening event featuring 4 local singer songwriters that provide a rare opportunity to hear original songs along with an understanding of the writer’s creative process. In this case Laugh'n in the Round has a comic twist. Along with the creative talents of a singer songwriter these artists have developed their craft to include everyday life, common phrases, and situation comedy into hysterical tunes that will have you laughing in the aisles. Here is a little about each of the writers:

Todd Chappelle is a comedy songwriter who has been described as a cross between Weird Al Yankovic, Tom Lehrer and Stephen Lynch.  His songs have been heard on the Dr. Demento Show, CNN Radio, the Fox News Channel and Good Day Philadelphia.  Todd has performed in the New York Funny Songs Festival and the Philadelphia Funny Songs Festival.  He is thrilled to be a part of "Laugh'n in the Round".  In 2013, Todd released his 5th full-length comedy CD entitled "Morning People", which so far has sold well over a dozen copies.

Jessica Graae blends her folk-rock style and classical training to create haunting, soulful songs. Her “evocative, lush, exquisite vocals, accompanied by elegant and impressive guitar playing” create a “meditative backdrop” on her CD Gypsy Blood. Jessica has performed live on Graffiti Radio, Hometown Heroes, at the Brandywine Festival of the Arts and at the Dewey Beach, Bordentown and Ladybug Festivals. She showcased at the 7th Annual Singer-Songwriter Cape May in March 2014. Nominated for six WSTW Hometown Hero Homey Awards (2012, 2013), Jessica was a 2013 Philadelphia Folk Factory contest winner and a 2012 Delmarva Folk Hero contest finalist. Her song, “Wait by the Water” is featured in the 2013 independent film, “Yes, Your Tide is Cold and Dark, Sir.”

John Bunts (aka Johnny B) "Fans say that John combines the soulful introspection of a James Taylor, the storytelling of a Jim Croce, and a one of a kind sense of humor, all filtered through an Appalachian sensibility in a fresh and totally distinctive way. His original songs can make you laugh out loud, or gently touch your emotions with rare honesty and power."

Peter Scobell is the songwriter for The Splashing Pearls an all original, local band which has received "Album of the Year" and "Best Band" awards from WSTW's Hometown Heroes. Many of their songs are humorous and light hearted but Peter has a somewhat secret  stash of songs he brings out only for the Laughin'n the Round shows making him the Bad Boy of the group. After his first "R"rated performance with the group fellow writer Jessica Graae exclaimed to him "you're incorrigible!"
