ABOUT ABOUT

Modeled after Nashville's Blue Bird Café, Writers in the Round is an intimate listening event featuring 4 local singer songwriters that provide a rare opportunity to hear original songs along with stories from the writers offering an understanding of the writer’s creative process.

Michael Gilbert Ronstadt (http://michaelronstadt.com/)

For two decades, Michael G. Ronstadt has entertained audiences throughout North America on cello, guitar and voice. An exceptional musician-composer conversant with a wide range of styles, he not only executes captivating solo performances, but participates regularly in duo and trio situations with a diverse camp of young, innovative musician-songwriters including Lisa Biales, Serenity Fisher and David Trotta. His versatile talents have been tapped for concert and studio work by such artists as David Bromberg, Linda Ronstadt, Muriel Anderson and Craig Bickhardt. As a core member of Ronstadt Generations, Michael G. displays genre-blending explorations on cello and guitar in complement to thought-provoking lyrics. To say his originals are unusual is an understatement. They set the bar at Olympian heights in their depth and breadth. In addition to his solo recordings as well as those with Ronstadt Generations, Michael G. is a much sought-after studio musician, who has appeared on more than fifty albums in the last dozen years. Dan Buckley writing for The Tucson Citizen noted his “amazing command of the typical and exotic sounds of the cello, a true virtuoso and a man of instinctive musicality.” Michael holds both a Master and Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance and studied under esteemed pedagogues Yehuda Hanani, Nancy Green and Dr. Gordon Epperson.

Aaron Nathans (http://www.aaronnathans.com/)

On his upcoming duo album with Michael G. Ronstadt, "Crooked Fiddle," Aaron Nathans presents a new song about 13-year-old nervously preparing for his Bar Mitzvah. Who else has done that? And why would they want to?

His mission is to write songs about things no one else has written about before. Like a song about male bonding between a guy and his barber. Or the onslaught of the outside world upon a new parent. Surely somebody's written that song, right? Ok, find it.

Aaron describes his songs as wild-mind, bittersweet acoustic music. He's one of a million guitar-slinging singer songwriters, but you've never heard anyone quite like Aaron, with his warped sense of humor and off-kilter view of the world. The Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas honored Aaron by naming him to the 2011 New Folk class, joining a list of previous honorees like Steve Earle, Lyle Lovett, Shawn Colvin and Lucinda Williams.

His solo shows include humorous, meandering stories that will keep you every bit as captivated as the music itself -- beautiful guitar work, catchy melodies, and his sweet baritone voice.

Christine Havrilla (http://www.christinehavrilla.com/)

Philadelphia area native Christine Havrilla, after embarking on an ambitious new journey with her Gypsy Fuzz project in late 2011, is releasing a series of "Live Sessions" in 2014 which will include long-time fan favorites as well as new songs with her current band, Gypsy Fuzz. Finding. Living.”, the darker & electric guitar-based debut release from Gypsy Fuzz, produced by Larry Crane (Cat Power, Sleater-Kinney, Elliott Smith) and Christine, is described as "a blend of 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s rock delivered by the modern singer/songwriter."

Gretchen Schultz (http://www.reverbnation.com/gretchenschultz)
